7th International Conference on Solar Air-Conditioning
- PV Driven/Solar Thermal -
Hotel Husa Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona, Spain
September 28/29, 2017
Deadline for submission of abstracts:
March 27th, 2017
Ten years after its second edition, the 7th International Conference on Solar Air Conditioning is going to come back to Spain and especially in the beautiful city of Tarragona.
Spain is more than ever one of the hot spot for cooling in Europe and its recent economical revival clearly gives a lot of opportunities for renewable energy to enter the game of the air conditioning market.
One decade ago, the Conference dominantly dealt with solar thermal cooling as THE renewable solution for the future. In 2017, the situation is strongly different because meanwhile solar photovoltaic faced strong reduction in prices, the solar thermal market only slowly gains importance.
As a matter of fact, the 7th OTTI conference on solar cooling is strongly giving the floor to this new generation of solar cooling systems based on the coupling between PV and air conditioning systems. The competition between solar thermal and solar photovoltaic which is hard and essentially in favor of the electrical solution at least for small to medium power range (until 100 kWcooling) is representing as well a very stimulating factor for innovation in the sector of solar thermal cooling.
Another hot topic during the new edition is the diversification of usage of the solar heat beyond simply cooling: domestic hot water, space heating, process heat, heating for networks.
Following the 2nd Conference hosted in Tarragona 2007, the next conference returns to Spain to celebrate 12 years of successful networking of solar cooling researchers, industrial companies and technology developers.
Tarragona city as the conference location lies in the heart of the touristic and powerful Catalunya, one of the leading economic region in Spain and close to Barcelona which is a well known host of many events on high technologies.

6th International Conference on Solar Air-Conditioning
took place at the Leonardo da Vinci Rome Airport Hotel, Italy on September 24/25, 2015.
It was a very interesting conference and we wish to thank the scientific committee, the presenters, helping hands and all participants for coming!
Diligent research on small scale low-temperature chillers, the launch of a new generation of compact solar cooling units and large-scale plants able to compete economically with conventional cooling solutions: These are just some of the main trends which were discussed during the 6th International Conference on Solar Air-Conditioning organised by German company East-Bavarian Institute for Technology Transfer, OTTI, Rome, Italy, on 24/25 September.
The workshop New Generation Solar Cooling & Heating Systems held in Rome, Italy, on 23 September 2015 was the opportunity to check the status of both research on and market developments in solar cooling technology. The half-day event, which had about 40 participants, was jointly organised by Task 53 of the IEA Solar Heating & Cooling Programme and the German Eastbavarian Institute for Technology Transfer, OTTI e.V., and took place a day before the start of OTTI’s 6th International Conference on Solar Air-Conditioning.
Workshop on The New Generation Solar Cooling & Heating Systems (PV or solar thermally driven systems) / IEA SHC Task 53
